For the Love of the Pod
I’d like to share with you a little about how this podcast came to life. As a small girl I had a slight obsession with music, though no one knew since I was also very shy. Growing up as an only child I would write lyrics for my own songs in my diary, make up dance choreography to my favorite songs - I loved how you can express what you get from the music with your body - pick out notes to discover favorite songs on my own home piano, and dream of becoming a musician. I grew up in the middle of nowhere Texas, so music influence was rare with the exception of my mom and grandparents; mom led and sang the hymns at Sunday church, grandpa played guitar in a local band and my nanny played (mostly for family and herself) the piano by ear. I’d say my nanny was my biggest influence since I believe she did pass down her ability to play music by ear, and I could feel the passion as she played. Basically, I was influenced but in very disguised and far reaching ways in a very small town that didn’t even get top hits played on the radio until weeks later. I did nothing with that dream, as I aged I found new passions and hobbies, and more reasons to suppress that deep desire to do more musically.
Flash forward to adult life. I have visited 6 countries and counting, many national parks & domestic cities, and have found a permanent longing for learning more about myself along with other cultures; how life is seen and lived differently. I still have that burning passion inside for music but with more depth, in addition to my other passion for travel.
Then in 2020 the world experienced a pandemic. During the pandemic I had the opportunity to take a deep look into my life and what really mattered to me. Who do I see myself being? Where do I want to be in 10 years from now? What will I be doing in my career? Then it hit me, I realized that I’m not acting on pursuits which have never left me, trying to get my attention and set the deepest parts of my soul on fire; this hobby that truly makes me feel alive. I wanted to find a solution to this so I started brainstorming and created my vision.
A few things I knew:
1) I have a unique talent, yet I am not tapping into my fullest potential.
2) I want to impact others lives and give joy, connection, knowledge, and experiences where I can.
3) I am super passionate about traveling and music.
4) I want to start right NOW.
My wonderful husband gifted me a piano for Christmas so I purchased lessons with an academy to start learning how to properly play piano and write my own music. I thought - Ok I’m working towards creating my own music, but that’s going to take some time, what can I do now? My lovely husband (who also apparently has the very best intentions for me) gave me an idea and I bounced around the thought of a podcast since I’d always thought it would be really fun and fitting, but one day as I was driving to work it finally clicked and I saw my vision, my end goal working seamlessly starting as a podcast and I immediately started working on incorporating my vision into the new format I hope you are enjoying.
And now you ask? Well, hopefully you’re listening to it!
